The Layout of the villa
The villa is built on a series of terraces. The first is the entrance, which opens onto a courtyard which opens on the beach resort. The oval palaestra leads into a grand octagonal frigidarium (cold room) from which you access by the tepidarium (warm room), to three caldaria (hot baths). Then there is the impressive main peristyle whose center is occupied by a monumental fountain, on which open different rooms; one of its sides has a small apse sanctuary. The third group is in south, around the elliptical peristyle. The large triclinium has apses on three sides, and it is decorated with mythological scenes including representing the Labours of Hercules. The fourth group of rooms is located east of the main peristyle around the long corridor that has great hunting scene.then there is many other rooms which are every composed of mosaics representing different scenes of the daily life.
The building, which deserves the title of palace -rather than villa- was designed in the tradition of the Roman villa, but on a scale and at a level of luxury without parallel known in the Roman Empire. So it represents the luxury of the 3rd century.
